How to use these ketone test strips
Ensure your hands are clean and dry before starting. Insert a test strip into your FreeStyle meter, use a sterile lancing device to prick your fingertip, and then gently touch the test strip to a drop of blood. The meter will display your ketone level within 5 seconds. After noting your result, promptly dispose of the used test strip.
What do my blood ketone test results mean?
A reading below 0.6mmol/L is considered normal. A level between 0.6 and 1.5mmol/L suggests a slight risk of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), warranting another test in 2 hours. Readings from 1.6 to 2.9mmol/L indicate a higher risk of DKA, and you should contact your healthcare provider immediately. A result of 3mmol/L or higher signifies a very high risk of DKA, requiring urgent medical attention.
Can you reuse test strips?
Test strips are single-use and cannot be reused. Attempting to reuse a strip will prompt an error message on your meter, and any reading obtained from a reused strip should be considered unreliable. The strips contain a precise amount of enzyme for a single test, rendering them ineffective for subsequent testing.
Storage information
Keep your test strips at room temperature. Never use strips beyond their expiration date for accurate and safe results.
